I saw 'The Errant Pan' in The Metropolitan Museum a few days ago. It's difficult to find, though so happy I sought it out. It was thrilling to see an original.

i grew up near cornish, nh - where maxfield painted. apparently, i even met him when i was a kid. i knew the grandkids of some of his models and my folks have a bunch of his father's etchings. i even have a good friend back there w/ a HUGE maxfield parrish oil in her family's guesthouse. the quality of light reflected in his paintings is one of the unique features of that part of the world. we sometimes get that same light here in california. on those days, my mind goes fishing all day way up in the sky!

I don't remember when I first became aware of Parrish's work, but after seeing "Daybreak", I fell in love instantly. It's as if you're transported to another time and place, a dream world that never existed. I have a print of "Ecstacy" and I can't help but stare at it when ever I enter the room.
